Last year, the company recruited several key employees in order to strengthen its competencies, and invested in digital platforms.
In June 2017, Aalto EE bought the entire share capital of Finva Finanssikoulutus Oy from Vakuutustiedon Kehittämissäätiö (the Insurance Sector Development Association). During the financial period, this new subsidiary of Aalto EE Group achieved its first good, profitable turnover in a long time. Its employees were transferred to the parent company, Aalto EE, during the fall. Aalto EE Group had 119 employees by the end of 2017.
Societal impact is linked to international esteem
In the Financial Times' annual global ranking – the most prestigious of its kind in the world – Aalto EE rose to number 46 among thousands of business schools offering executive education, to become the only Finnish provider in the world's top 0.5 percent. The Aalto Executive MBA flagship program had a global ranking of 78th. There are over 3,000 EMBA programs in the world, only the top 100 of which make it into the Financial Times' ranking. The top places are still held by the joint programs of Asian (particularly Chinese) and Western universities.
Almost all participants in the Aalto EMBA program graduate within the ideal time frame. Around a quarter of the most recent cohort also graduated with honors. On a global scale, it is rare that the whole cohort graduates together.
Aalto EE provided around 90 customized programs for companies around the world. In 2017, a total of almost 6,000 persons participated in the group’s programs, including long degree programs and shorter, open enrolment and the aforementioned customized programs.
In recent years, Aalto EE and Aalto PRO (which forms part of Aalto EE’s portfolio) have played a major role in transitional situations – and the related staff restructurings – faced by international Finnish companies. For example, Aalto EE has been a service provider for the Microsoft Polku program since 2015. Over five hundred executives and experts, who have left their former posts, have selected Aalto EE or Aalto PRO as their training partner.
Income of EUR 3.1 million generated for the Aalto community
Aalto EE generates a large amount of income for the Aalto community, in the form of dividends, royalties, lecture fees and rent. The company’s financial footprint in the Aalto community continued to grow in 2017, amounting to EUR 3.1 million (EUR 2.6 million in 2016).
“Our role in helping Aalto to fulfil its societal mission and in strengthening its financial basis is the key reason we exist. Success in this regard encourages our entire team to work harder in the fully globalized major league, which the training and education markets have become,” says Dr. Pekka Mattila, Group Managing Director.
